Tesla has been increasing its portfolio quickly the last two year. First was the Model X added to the range and the recently introduced Model 3 has already nearly 400.000 pre-orders. The fourth model that will be introduced to complete the ‘S3XY’ lineup is the smaller crossover of Tesla based on the Model 3. This new crossover would compete against the likes of the new BMW i5, Audi’s E-tron, Mercedes ELC, and Jaguar’s electric SUV.

The Model Y will share a platform with the Model 3 and, subsequently, be priced slightly higher. The Model Y will have a similar relation to the Model 3 as the Model X has to the Model S. As the base will be the same as the Model 3, specifications will be similar with the base version having rear-wheel-drive cars and should get about a 215-mile range. All-wheel drive will be offered, and larger batteries with longer ranges are expected. Tesla’s Autopilot self-driving feature will come standard.
