The Smart Forfour has a special place in my heart. I have owned a first generation Smart Forfour as my first car. A great car, good looks, reliable, fuel efficient and fairly cheap to own. And it was built in my home country, the Netherlands. The first generation would be the base of a small SUV, the Formore. Unfortunately, it was cancelled last minute even though pre-production cars were already made and tested. Even more bitter was that the Formore would have been the first car in the now immensely popular small SUV segment. The current generation Forfour would be a good base to recreate a more ‘SUV-like’ model. Not a completely different model, but an cross version to compete with the VW Cross-Up!, Opel Karl and Adam Rocks, Suzuki Ignis and Mazda CX-3. New roughed up bumpers, extra plastic on the sides and roofrails make the Forfour a great extension to the current Smart lineup.
