VW has had some problems selling the Volkswagen Touareg in the USA. The midsize SUV was too expensive compared to the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, Chevrolet Traverse, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Honda Pilot. Also, the Touareg lacks a third row of seats.
Designed to be positioned between the Tiguan and the Touareg, the CrossBlue will nevertheless offer seating for seven, and will use a lengthened version of the modular MQB platform that now underpins the Tiguan and a range of other VW group vehicles.
