The current (first) generation Insignia was a big improvement over the Vectra and was sold as a 4 door sedan, 5 door hatchback and 5 door wagon. The next generation will be sold only as a hatchback and wagon, whereas the USA will get a sedan. The next generation Insignia will feature the new design elements of the new Opel vehicles and Monza concept, but will still be recognisable as an Insignia. This trend was already seen with the Corsa and Astra and will continue with the biggest model of Opel.
The new Insignia will grow slightly in length sporting a stretched wheelbase said to be up to 100mm longer, according to some sources, to improve rear passenger legroom. Like the new Astra that dropped up to 200kg over its predecessor, the bigger Insignia will also benefit from a similar weight reduction.
The Insignia will feature a variety of petrol and diesel engines. There are also rumours that the 1.0 3 cylinder turbo petrol of the Astra and the Hybrid powertrain of the Chevrolet Malibu will be used in the Insignia
