While at first the rumours regarding the new BMW i5 were that it would rival the Tesla Model S or that it could be an extended version of the i3, it’s now understood that an SUV is likely to be favoured by BMW.

BMW will put the same sort of advanced tech seen in the i3 and i8, plus the latest in autonomous driving and connectivity features. Therefore, a low-weight carbon fibre chassis and all-electric power with a range well in excess of 200 miles can be expected. A plug-in hybrid version is also likely to be available.
